Log #22: Bravery and Faith

Stardate: 7.18.14
Subject: Bravery and Faith

Personal Log: “There is no justice amongst the stars”  Innon said so long ago, perhaps he was right. Fighting darkness on all fronts, every move we make pulls us deeper in and pushes us farther away from the light. Innocent people have paid the price for those who believe themselves more than mortal.  I have seen my crew in pain. I have looked into the hatred of the ones that have caused it.  We have but two cards left to play, perhaps these will hold the strengths that we need, our ace, Bravery and Faith.  These things have not wavered in the face of tremendous darkness. Be it Danny fighting off his pain to perform his duties, Kelsey and Sarah unraveling the mysteries in the shadows,  Sammy and Marcus risking their lives to save others, I have seen theses strengths. Each and every crewman performs with bravery when called to do so and for this I have more faith in them every day. With danger seeming to lurk at every corner, perhaps it is true, with a crew like this, you don’t have to be safe to be unafraid.  It will get darker. It will get worse. And we will be ready.

Personal Log – I woke up this morning to the sun peaking over the distant, snow-capped mountains. It was oddly brisk for a landscape so much like Arizona. Danny and the Lieutenant were already awake, chatting as they lay on top of their sleeping bags. One of them had stoked the fire. As the Lieutenant had found the lakewater potable, I went down and filled a pot to make coffee. The lake was filled with oddly shaped fish. I watched them for a while, feeding them a packet of crackers I had saved for Meeko. They gobbled them up.
We then received a transmission from the Alaster that a rescue ship was on its way, though it may be a few days before it arrives. Content, the three of us settled in. Danny was a bit upset, to say the least. Out here he managed to get a restful night’s sleep. He remarked that the stars “don’t twinkle quite the same” as they do when you have two feet on solid land and miles of atmosphere. I had to agree, the place had a certain charm to it. It reminded me of camping trips long ago that I took with my family, when my mother taught us how to survive with little more than a knife, our wits, and a bill of good health.
Unfortunately, our discussion was cut short by a disturbance. Marcus and I both noticed a movement, what appeared to be a mass of something heading along the mountain range, kicking up dust. We moved our little pow-wow inside to avoid the possible threat. It was then that we saw a spotlight about a hundred kilometers away. Our scanners could not identify the source, so at the suggestion of the Lieutenant, I flew the Demon Hunter into a nearby cave. There, we discovered writings on the wall in Enochian script, but human handwriting. We scanned it and sent it to the USS Alaster for further analysis.
Needless to say, Danny was not too thrilled to find traces of the Enochians here. The Lieutenant and I tried to cheer him up, comfort him and we eventually got him to smile. I worry for him, as I worry for all of my companions. Everyone has been so brave, though we oftentimes feel tested beyond our limits. I am surprised and proud we have come out of these situations in one piece.
I feel confident in the Lieutenant’s and Danny’s abilities to keep themselves alive and safe in this (hopefully) desolate landscape, as I feel confidence growing in my own. Whoever it may be that is out there, if they are searching for us, I am certain we will be able to evade until our help arrives. I would sooner give my life than see either of my compatriots die due to a mistake I made. I pray that the entire crew of the Alaster stays safe, and that we three are returned to her embrace soon.

Personal Log:  The beacon has not yet moved. It appears to be coming from the ground. I have not yet been able to determine what it is for, but I may know who has activated it.
Danny, Justin and I have a visitor to this cave, though we are more likely the intruders to his cave. He began with the words “Exchansthenous Via?” I am unsure of the language. After introducing ourselves, he revealed himself to be Terra Venitas, a human who guards the cave. An archivist of sorts, I suppose. Regardless, he thought we were Deflasians, a three-tailed reptilian native, like the desert raiders of old Earth.  As per request, he proved his humanity by drawing his own blood. He then proceeded to explain the writing on the wall. It is the Sermon of Fhalharty, the last words of the last great king of the Enochians, before the start of the Great War, in which that mighty race descended into chaos, divided into factions. Terra’s partner returned to Earth to study the Enochians in secret. He has not been heard from in two years.
The Sermon speaks of an Arbiter. A man who will hold a weapon powerful enough to force the sides of the Silent War to negotiations. This Arbiter is said to be marked as a man whose voice will be able to end the silent war. These marks? On his hands, the marks of peace. The “warning against silence in the face of danger.”
They are the marks that are on Danny’s hands.

Duty Log:  Danny is the Arbiter. He can stop the Great War. His research, if correctly modified, has the capability to absorb gamma radiation from Delastrians. This would either render them impotent or completely annihilate them. I do not know which.
Our questioning of Terra was cut short by a transmission from the Alaster. There is an unidentified vessel headed towards us. They are, rather than being after Danny, after Terra. I am certain they would love to get their hands on Danny too, of course. Regardless, I was given orders to protect Terra. Though he refuses to leave the cave, I have my orders. He shall not be taken.
Personal Log: I worry for the sake of Danny. He is under constant stress, whether from people trying to kill him or him losing friends or him being isolated…I want him to know that I am there for him, but I also do not want to cross any lines due to my position. After everything, I am beginning to consider him a dear friend – him and the Lieutenant both, though I fear I must pay more attention to Danny due to his specific circumstances. A part of me wishes someone else were here, that Freed had made it, so he could keep an eye on Danny and help keep our spirits up. I’m sure our banter would have been able to lighten Danny’s heart ever so slightly, even if only for a short while. He tries to be brave, to press on, but he walks like the weight of the world is on his shoulders. Sometimes, I can almost see it physically pressing down on him. I want to tell him that he doesn’t have to be in this alone, that he has us. I want to reassure him, to hug him, hold him tight until his tears stopped falling, like I did Alex following the accident. I feel it is my duty. And yet, it is that duty that keeps me from doing so – it would be an egregious breach of protocol.

I am in charge, I am responsible for the safety of Justin, of Danny, and of Terra now. I am to blame if they are hurting or if they get hurt. I take that duty not only in the physical sense, but psychological and emotional as well. If an embrace can relieve the pain, even for a short while, then who am I to deny? I want so badly for them all to make it out of here intact. If I have to sacrifice my own peace, then so be it. I will travel to Hell and back for my crew, strict protocol be damned.

Log #21: TREADSTONE

Communications Log: I awoke in the Medbay this morning, after spending the night there waiting for CPO Timmons to be released, at some point I must have fallen asleep. Once I was awake I noticed PO2 Boris, working on unscrambling the voice the hackers voice on the recording we had, while CPO Timmons was working on translating the Delastrian dialect.  Kelsey requested I take a look at the recording to see if I noticed anything she missed.  While the recording was playing, both CPO Kelsey Timmons and I got chills running down our spines.  PO2 Boris then informed us she’d noticed something strange on the recording.  She was noticing two distinct voice patterns, one belong to a woman, the other to a man.  We then ran a voice analysis on the cough against that of Dakota Chrisna.  What we found out was startling.  The recording originating from the planet Kronos, with the woman coughing was a 87.234% match to data files from after her time on the Alaster. 0% match for all those before being assigned to the USS Alaster.  Meaning the Dakota Chrisna we had on board our ship, was not the real Dakota Chrisna.  In addition the Chrisna on Earth, being tried for crimes committed aboard the USS Alaster was never on this ship in the first place.  While this revelation was actually sinking in, CPO Timmons translated the word “Breath” into Enochian, then found out it didn’t mean the same thing in Delastrian, and found the word was the equivalent to “Breath”.
I left to go find PO1 Kilpatrick.  I found her in the Communications lounge.  She was staring at the television with absolute horror on her face.  CPO Timmons burst into the room as a news report from San Francisco began, "Breaking news this morning out of San Francesco where the murder trial of Dakota Chrisna was set to begin final arguments. A few moments ago an explosion rocked the downtown area, it has now been confirmed that Dakota Chrisna along with several police officers and key witness have all been confirmed killed. Chrisna, who was looking likely to be released, is believed to have been the victim of an attack by angry protesters who have condemned her trial as unfair due to her memory loss."
We immediately pulled up a list of the confirmed dead.
“Dakota Chrisna
Defense Attorney Eliza Manchester
Officer Anthony Suits
Officer: Baily Montisque
Wittnesses for the Defense:
Jaqulene Chrisna
Joseph Chrisna
Haley Nukem“
I went for a walk when the Captain came over the ship’s intercom to address the situation.  Informing us we are now setting course for Earth.
Update: At 12:15 the Ship shook.  I ran to the nearest Communications terminal, Inquiring what exactly was going on. I got this reply, “THIS IS TREADSTONE. THE ALASTER HAS BEEN DECOMISSIONED. ACTIVATING FULL POWER SHUT DOWN IN 15 MINS.”
CMDR Carlson ordered whoever was closest to the Warp Core, needed to hit the manual shut down, before the clock reached zero.  Danny Talyard replied, informing us that the door was jammed and he couldn’t open it by himself.  At this point many people were running to the warp generator room to assist in getting this door open.  In total the ones responsible for getting the door open were myself, CMDR Carlson, CPO Timmons, Lt. Marcus, CDT CRMN Hitchner, PO1 Freed, and Danny.  Time kept running down and I called for Meeko, to come, hoping the raccoon might be of some assistance to us, he was no help.  When Freed joined in pulling, the door was wrenched off it’s hinges.  I grabbed Meeko, to prevent him from getting into any trouble, while CMDR Carlson and Danny ran into the room, Danny then shut the generator down.  For a few tense minutes everything was dark, but Danny reactivated power upon CMDR being ordered.  Everyone was holding their breath, praying for the best.  Power was successfully restored and there was no trace of TREADSTONE, in the system.  As soon as we knew we were safe, I requested permission to return to the Communications Lounge with Meeko, and to run a systems check for any bugs.  Before CPO Timmons and I left we asked Talyard about his hands, he told us he’d never seen anything like it before, and asked what it meant in Delastrain.  The symbols together make up characters in a proverb: "Beware silence, for it is the tread stone to damnation".

Engineering log: The day began like any other in the Engineering Department. I reported to my department head who gave me instructions to check on the Alasters shields and inertial dampeners with my colleague, Mr. Jensen. Jensen and I decided to split these duties; I took the shields and he the inertial dampeners. I grabbed a set of tools out of the Engineering store room and left to carry out my assigned task. When I arrived at the ship’s rear shield generators I noticed a timer counting down on the main display console along with the words “Program Route: tread stone”. Alarmed by this, I informed PO Freed over the communicator, and was immediately ordered to cut power to that part of the ship. When I attempted to do this my commands were rejected by the computer. Realizing I was dealing with a computer virus beyond my ability to thwart, I chose to cut power to shields via the manual override down the hall from my location. Unfortunately, the shield generator overloaded before I could do so, causing a massive power surge that disabled the Alaster’s rear shield array. After the bulkheads sealed off the section of the ship, CMR Carlson came over the shipwide intercom system and ordered any available personnel to go to the Warp Core. When I arrived at the core, I saw CPO Timmons, SPCO Jungling, the Commander, and some other crew members trying to pry open the door leading to the main engine room. Using an item from my tool bag to gain leverage against the door, I joined in to help my crewmates. After quite some effort, we managed to knock the door off its hinges, giving PO Taylard a clear path to the warp engine’s manual override. The ship’s systems were reset, averting a catastrophic overload and resulting detonation of the Alaster’s warp core. With the crisis resolved, PO Freed ordered me to take a damage control team to the generator room to assess and repair the damage.

Initial damage assessment: critical damage to aft shield systems, will have to remain offline for some time while repairs are made.

Medical Duty Log: I entered Medbay to find 2 non-critical patients and I began treating them. I treated the first patient by disinfecting his wounds, bandaging and stitching as needed. I began to assess the second patient, when I was alerted to a situation in Hanger Bay  by SCPO Sarah Jungling. She requested medical personnel to come be on standby at the hanger bay entrance incase something went wrong. The door was jammed and after trying to open it, a suggestion was made to blow up the door. We were clearing everyone from the door to blow it up, when it opened and CMDR Carlson staggered out covered in wounds from an apparent sword fight. He promptly passed out and we transported him to the medbay with assistance from the Marines. Once we arrived in the medbay, PO2 Goldstein was contacted for report to medbay for an emergency medical situation. We then began to assess his wounds and discovered he had passed out due to blood loss, he had deep wounds on both arms, and given the amount of blood loss he had suffered from, he was quite stable. PO2 Goldstein requested I give the CMDR a blood transfusion to regain all the blood he lost. Once we started stitching his wounds up, the CMDR regain consciousness, his response was coherent, and he was quite optimistic about his injuries given that he won the sword fight. The CMDR handed over his weapon for evidence collection and I transfered it to security.
Personal log: This was my first experience being the first responder and I found it very stressful. I am relieved that the Captain’s wounds aren’t severe, and I am nervous for what the future holds.

Communications Log: My shift today started out normal I began checking for bugs in the communications terminals when I was informed to get Security to Hangar Bay 1 pronto.  So I canceled my Diagnostics Program and called to report the situation, all I had been told at this point was to get security there.  It was about this time that I got a call on my communicator from Midshipman Sammy Stauffer, telling that the Captain was currently sword fighting an assassin.  I notified Medical to send someone to the hangar entrance and be ready to treat any number of injuries.
I then headed there myself, arriving after Medic CDT CRMN Alicia Latham did, shortly after I arrived a group of the Marines arrived lead by Sparky.  I asked them to get the door, which security was currently was desperately trying to open with no luck, open.  Sparky told me the only way we’d get this door open would be to blow it open, at this point no one had any other ideas, we thought it was our only option.  As we were clearing the area around the door, and after I had tried to contact Midshipman Stauffer, to get her to clear the area, the door opened.  Out of the open door staggered the Captain.  He had deep cuts on both his arms.  Medic Latham then took charge, ordering someone to grab a chair.  The Captain made two statements before passing out, “You should see the other guy.” and “I think I may need to seek medical attention.”  As soon as we got the Captain into the chair he passed out.  Medic Latham wanted a stretcher, but the Marines decided there was no time, and picked the Captain up, carrying him to the Medbay.
I contacted LCDR John Gray, informing him that the Captain was unconscious and was enroute to the medbay, asking if there was anything I could do to assist. I then followed the Marines and Medic Latham to the Medbay.  Head Physician Sara Goldstein was called and arrived in the Medbay a little after the Captain.  I was on my way back to Hangar Bay One to make sure the assassin’s body was collected and to request that 2D photographs were taken for Communications.  I then was making my way to the Communications Lounge when LCDR Gray requested I get in contact with our shuttle the Demon Hunter, to make sure they were alive and well.  I continued towards the Comms Lounge stopping at the Terminal I had run the full diagnostics on earlier, and opened a secure channel, encrypted channel to the Demon Hunter.  Midshipman Samantha Stauffer replied, confirming that herself, Danny Talyard, and Lt Marcus, we all alive and okay. Midshipman Stauffer inquired about the Captain, I then assured them he was stable and conscious, being treated in the Medbay.  I then signed off and closed the secure channel.
Personal Log: Assassins and Sword fights, you’d think we were on one of those old Earth ships, and not a Federation Ship with the amount of Sword fighting going on.  We’re lucky the Captain knew how to sword fight or who knows what would have happened.  I just don’t know what to think anymore, first the whole Dakota not being Dakota thing, then we’re fighting off a program trying to decommission our ship, and now assassins.  It’s really worrying.  I am relieved that we now have the chance to study a Delastrian, even if we won’t be able to question it, hopefully we’ll learn something useful.

Helms Log – I reported down to the hangar bay at approximately 5:51pm. Once there, I observed Commander Carlson going over damages with Lieutenant Marcus and PO2 Daniel Talyard. Upon seeing if they needed assistance, the commander requested that I run scans of all the shuttles. I had just boarded the Demon Hunter when there came a commotion. I poked my head out of the shuttle to see the Captain locked in combat with who appeared to be a security officer, though in actuality it was our shape-shifting assassin, targeting Talyard. Without a word, I ran off the shuttle, grabbed the Lieutenant and PO2 Talyard and pulled them on with me. I waited as long as I could for Chief Freed before deploying, but Chief Freed did not arrive in time. As we were leaving, I radioed in to the communications department, warning them of the danger the Captain was in and issuing an all-hands to the hangar to aid him.
Once out of the range of the Alaster’s warp signature, I activated the cloaking device. We traveled at high speed away from the Alaster, taking measures to avoid easy tracking. Once a safe distance away, I slowed down the shuttle and briefed PO2 Talyard on the situation. After some travel time, my scans picked up a small, unimportant Class M planet by the name of Tama. It appeared to be uninhabited, with a 10% water makeup and a comparable atmosphere to Earth. I landed the shuttle next to a large lake. We made contact with the Alaster on a secure transmission to verify that we were alive and uninjured.
Following that transmission, I assigned PO2 Talyard to take inventory of our supplies, the lieutenant to check the viability of the lake as a potable water source, and I myself went out to survey our surroundings and get a lay of the land.

Personal Log:I am thankful for Sarah making contact with us. I was so worried about the Captain and everyone else on the ship. Though I still worry, it puts my mind at ease. Danny and Lt. Marcus and I all have prior experience with roughing it, so even without the shuttle’s supplies, I think we would be alright. I gave Marcus the opportunity to take the lead on the mission, but he made it clear that the Captain had put me in charge. That being said, I feel confident in my abilities to keep us alive, provided there are no uncatalogued immediate dangers on this planet. I do not know how long this will last, but I get the feeling Danny, Marcus, and I will get to know one another very well during our time here.

Flight Control briefed us on a search and rescue mission that was to be performed in the debris field of the Rosenberg and USS Frontier. After exiting warp we discovered 11 signs of life. All contained between three escape pods. Retrieval of the first two sets of survivors was routine. Retrieval of the last required combat against pirates and a newly discovered microbe. Each of which will be described in detail by the corresponding departments.

Weapon’s Officer Duty Log: Upon entering the area surrounding the debris field weapons stations was ordered to bring shield online. Moments later an enemy Cardassian Cruiser was spotted to the 2 o’clock of the ship. Communications had noted that the enemy had not yet deployed their shields. Upon further scans this was recognized as true. Loading four homing torpedoes Weapons stations made their locks on the enemy cruiser through the debris field. Engineering had a power failure to Phaser Banks only just before the enemy came into range of the torpedoes. Upon asking for permission to fire on the enemy cruiser torpedoes were launched with devastating effect. The enemy cruiser was hit by all four torpedoes and suffered critical damage and was officially sunk. The escape pods were locked on target with the help of my weapons officers and pulled in by sciences. Nine survivors were brought in this way. This concludes the role of Weapons and Security during the voyage.

Medical/Science Log:
The USS Alaster came across the remnants of a battleship. We were trying to get the ship through the scattered fragments of the ship to 3 different espape pods with a total of 11 people on them. One escape pod has 2 people, another had 4 people, and the third had 5 people on board. We were able to retrieve all three escape pods, but not without difficulty. We learned that the escape pod with 2 people on board had grabbed a microbe in their lab when the evacuated their ship, and they had asked us to study it. We tried to contain the unknown microbe in the shuttle, but the seal wasn’t tight and began to spread within the shuttle. In the hangerbay, PO2 Goldstein, CRMN Hitchner, PO2 Detterline and I tried to seal the hangerbay and get the people on board the shuttle oxygen tanks so we could remove the oxygen from the shuttle. The microbes were using the oxygen within the shuttle the expand. The hangerbay was locked down, to save the rest of the ship from being contaminated from microbes. After several failed attempts to contain the microbes, PO2 Goldstein, CRMN Hitchner, PO2 Detterline, and myself piled into a shuttle in the hangerbay. We proceeded to clear the shuttle of all microbes and sealing the shuttle, after dealing with a jammed door. The CMDR Carlson, ordered us to gravity lock all things to the floor and the hangerbay door was opened, and all the microbes were sucked out into space.

  • PO2 Sara Goldstein
Head Physician Duty Log: I am still trying to comprehend the events of this mission. It was quite literally the stuff of nightmares. *sigh* After the altercation that took place over a space meadow of trash, my team and I were alerted to an escape pod containing two refugees and a bloodthirsty space tuberculosis. It started out as it always does, I suppose. Initial frenzy over discovering the presence of a potentially fatal microbe, suiting up, and preparing to retrieve samples so derp-- I mean, sciences can tell us what we’re dealing with. Things spun out of control pretty fast. I haven’t even finished my lukewarm coffee, which was sitting on my desk from this morning after I was beautifully interrupted by annoying peoples and brain tumors. The first attempt to control the outbreak was to ventilate antivirals in a gaseous form. Needless to say, we wasted a lot of monies on those supposed antivirals. It turns out this ‘virus’ seemed to feed on the substance we administered. They rapidly grew in size, mutating so fast our heads were spinning. Eventually they became visible and we basically had a ball pit of viruses. In addition to beating them...with our fists, I guess, their size allowed for easy disposal into deep space. Thus, the threat was seemingly ended.

Communications Log: During this cruise communication was still recovering from being hacked, and thus experienced a number of systems failures, particularly when we, CRMN Lizzie Latham and I, were trying to receive transmissions.  The first incoming transmission we received was from a group of scavengers, the message was incoherent at best, less than 25% of the original message transmitted.  After trying a few times we were able to distinguish what was being said, “Just because we have no shields doesn’t mean you’ve won.  You couldn’t hit the broadside of a planet with that aim.”  Or some variation of that.
The next transmission we received, was still spotty but we were able to clean it up very little time.  It was from one of the escape pods.  They apparently decided that while running for their lives, they had to save their experiment.  Thus they were contacting us to request a Science Officer be present to examine this Microbe they found.  One that experiences exponential growth when exposed to Oxygen.  Which posed a large problem for the rescue mission.  How do we save the survivors in the escape pod without compromising the rest of our ship to these Microbes?  After a miscalculation, we contacted the escape pod again asking them how upset they would be if we were to destroy the microbe, the response was, “NOT AT ALL!” Apparently they’d grown so much in the escape pod, the two survivors were afraid they’d be suffocated to death before anyone could rescue them.  Our mission was successful we were able to rescue all 11 survivors, in three separate escape pods, from the wreckage of the SS Rosenberg, and USS Frontier.  Looking back I believe communications can do a better job with clearing up transmissions if they come in spotty, like they did during this mission.
  • MID Samantha Stauffer
Helms Duty Log: For this mission, we returned to the wreckage of the USS Rosenberg to look for survivors. When three different escape pods were discovered, I piloted us close enough to the debris field to beam up the survivors, but not close enough to risk damage to the ship. Skirting around the debris field, we ran into some pirates, who attacked. I attempted evasive maneuvering, but the proximity of the debris field left my capabilities somewhat hampered. We were hit, though we eliminated the threat quickly. Approaching the third, possibly contaminated escape pod, I stopped the ship and Helmsman Kelly disembarked in a shuttle to tow the escape pod on board. Once the threat was dealt with, I turned the ship and took us back to Starbase 109.
  • CDT CRMN AJ Hitchner
Engineering log: During our mission to find survivors of the USS Rosenburg, engineering experienced several technical difficulties with the Alaster’s impulse engines. Additionally, the power to ship’s phasers was temporarily lost during an encounter with an enemy vessel. All problems were swiftly resolved. At one point during the mission, the captain ordered engineering and medical to aid in the retrieval of a potentially contaminated escape pod carrying three survivors of the Rosenburg. The escape pod also had aboard a microorganism of a rather temperamental disposition. Following Helmsman Kelly depositing the escape pod in the hangar bay, PO Jensen and I were tasked with setting up a containment field around the pod while medical would enter to retrieve the specimen and provide medical attention to the people aboard. Unexpectedly, the microorganism reacted rather strongly to the carbon dioxide science pumped into the lifeboat. The little bastards grew to about the size of a human fist and managed to escape the containment field before Jensen and I had finished assembling it. After numerous attempts by science to subdue the no-longer-so-microorganisms, the captain decide that our only choice was to open the hangar bay doors and let the creatures(?) be sucked out into space. My fellow crewmates and I ran to the nearest shuttle for shelter, dodging large amorphous blobs along the way. When I went close the shuttle’s rear hatch, the door mechanism jammed. With the aid of PO2 Goldstein, the door was unjammed and closed, ensuring we wouldn’t be sucked into the void with our unwanted guests. After a few tense moments, the macrobes were gone, and we returned to the work of quarantining and treating the men/women aboard the escape shuttle from the Rosenburg.

Personal log: I find it disconcerting that a few ragtag pirate ships could take down one of the most powerful and advanced vessels in the Federation fleet. I doubt those bastards could defeat a Constitution class starship in a fair fight, which makes me wonder; what could have possibly happened to the Rosenburg? Did they have a sudden total system failure at the exact moment the pirates attacked?

Log #19: Demons Among Us

Subject: Demons Amongst Us

  • CPO Kelsey Timmons
Communications Duty Log:
This morning we got in contact with the Chief of the Enochians, Agaroth, to discuss my theories about Demons. It was not a pleasent conversation.
For starters, we needed to boost the signal, since we were so far away. After several failed attempts, we got a shaky answer from the chief.
His responses go as follows:
"You refer to a dark people...often mistaken for the demons of hell...our rivals.... the cause of our misery.  You refer to the Delastrians."
"The Delastrians were destroyed by their own ignorance. Destroyed in the Galileo supernova."
The transmission becomes very fuzzy. "We used to be one tribe............................................They wished to devote themselves to the worship of................................................................. at the death of our worlds................................................................hoping to harness its power Delasant........................................................."
Then the transmission dropped completely, or so we thought, by chance I happened to notice that the transmission was actually intercepted and cut. Immediately, SCPO Jungling launched the interceptor program, while PO1 Boris and myself tried to re-initiate contact. The signal name is partially broadcast on these networks:  M-O-R-T-A-L-S-S-H-O-U-L-D-N-O-T-T-R-E-A-D.
Before any more information could be had, I was informed that the communications relays were fried and inoperable. Someone had hacked the network and locked us out of the gamma frequency we had been using to broadcast. During our attempts to hack back into the system, a human voice sounded over our intercoms.
"USS Alaster... Your communications privileges have been revoked. You have crossed beyond where mortals should tread"
At the same time, sciences newest program, the interceptor, stopped and traced a full hacking attempt. It came from Kronos.
It appears we have indeed stumbled where Angels fear to tread. We will all have to be very careful if we want to get the Alaster out of this intact.

Personal Log:
I am starting to fear for the lives of my friends - Sarah, Lizzie and Sam - who are only aoard the Alaster as per my recommendations. I had thought if they were where I could see them, then they were where I could protect them. It appears that I was mistaken. I fear, or care, very little for my own life - as I no doubt have proved countless times. But my friends? My department? My crew? For them, there is very little I wouldn’t do if it kept them safe. Only time will tell what measures will need to be taken.

  • MCPO Samantha Stauffer
Personal Log: Today Kelsey and I went down to Sciences to check out the coin the Captain found. After some meddling, it started to spin. When it stopped, it revealed several symbols and the Vulcan words for “Port” and “Starboard.” Curious, I think, though I do not know for what reasons it was made. I want to investigate it more.
Other developments took precedence, however. When I was discussing the mischievous Meeko with the Lieutenant, Sarah came running up. Apparently Kelsey had ceased speaking English, had made contact with the demons to our angels - the Enochians. I fear for her wellbeing - she always has the worst luck. I don’t want to lose her. She’s the sister I never had. She’s supposed to be my date for the Comms party today, but I am rethinking my ability to join the frivolity of the party. I’m just not feeling all that boisterous.
I wonder if I should fill in the Lieutenant on the goings-on, but I guess I should leave that to the Captain. No need to cause panic, though I doubt the marines would do so. They’re a good bunch.

This morning we received permission to get in contact with the Enochian Chief Agaroth.  After multiple failed attempts, Jenson from Engineering suggested we try bouncing the signal off of Starbase 109, to boost the relays to the capacity needed to reach the Enochian Safe Zone.  It worked after a few more failed attempts, while the signal was clear, we weren’t sure how long the connection would last.  CPO Timmons arrived very soon after we established contact with Chief Agaroth, but the signal was already becoming fuzzy.  PO2 Boris and I were working on keeping the signal going long enough to let CPO Timmons ask a few questions.  She was able to ask our most pressing question, but all we were left with were more questions.  The question was this,  “If your people are the source of legends about Angles, then who are the source about legends on Demons? Is there any information you could send us?” Agaroth responded telling us about the Delastrians, the Enochians enemies, or as Agaroth put, “the cause of their misery.”
Agaroth then told us how the Delastrians were destroyed of their own ignorance, in the Galileo supernova.  CPO Timmons requested more of the history between the two factions of the tribe, which is when the transmission started to get really fuzzy.  We learned that the tribe ended up splitting because of a difference in belief.  The Delastrians wanted to devote themselves to the worship of ______, we can only guess what it is at this point but it may have a connection with “Delasant” an item whose power the Delastrians hoped to harness. It was at this point that the transmission abruptly ended.  We thought we had just lost the signal, but upon further inspection we noticed that we hadn’t just lost the signal, it had been intercepted and deliberately cut off.  CPO Timmons found that the signal was being partially broadcast on the following networks, “M-O-R-T-A-L-S-S-H-O-U-L-D-N-O-T-T-R-E-A-D”
We immediately activated the Interceptor Program, we also found that we’d been locked out of our communications relays, and that the network itself had been hacked.  CPO timmons and PO2?? Boris began back-hacking, PO1 Kilpatrick was sent to Engineering to grab Jenson, and I headed to science to fetch PO3 Deterline.  Over the intercom a distinctly human voice announced, “USS Alaster... Your communications privileges have been revoked. You have crossed beyond where mortals should tread.” The Interceptor Program worked by blocking a full scale hacking attempt, and was able to trace the transmission’s location to the planet Kronos.  Before we could even submit any paperwork to get the relays fixed, the Captain fixed them himself.
Amendment:
After leaving the Communications Lair, I first went to Sciences, finding no one there, I tried looking for MCPO Stauffer in Lt. Marcus’ Office.  She was there, but it was at this time that I was informed that CPO Timmons had passed out and woke up speaking another language.  I immediately turned heel and returned to the Lair, giving Sammy the option to follow or not.  When we found her in the Lair she was still in her wheely chair, so MCPO Stauffer and I turned and started to wheel her to the Medbay.  Her only protest, at the time was for me to clear the Lair of all personnel and to lock it down, so I left her in Sammy’s hands and cleared everyone out of the lair, waiting for Security to show up to secure the area.  Once the area was secure, I made my way to the Medbay, to find everyone acting like themselves.

All Information pertaining to the Delastrians can be found in my Delastrian Log.
