Ship Log 8: Operation Danny Boy and Innon

Stardate: 06.23.14
Subject Operation Decoy Danny Boy
Location: Space between Saturn and Jupiter

ODDB Max Damage.png Captain’s Log: At 12:00 the USS Alaster checked all necessary systems and prepared for warp 1 to Jupiter Orbit.  Once cleared for warp, I ordered warp be engaged. On the way communications began transmitting a pre-translated warning message to the Enochian.  Upon arriving it orbit the Alaster received a return transmission from the Enochian. Offering it the terms of surrender did not go well and it declined with aggression. The transmissions had to be cut short due to the power fluctuation effects the gamma program has on the warp core. At this point we enacted the decoy plan, sending the fetal pig which had been disguised genetically and radioactively as Danny Boy Talyard. Once deployed, the ship was ordered armed and shielded. Unfortunately things did not go as planned  in the decoy mission and instead of drawing near enough to the shuttle to use the gravity well hidden. Instead the Enochian used a powerful gamma burst and destroyed the shuttle. The residual blast was then avoided by Helmsman Kelly, taking only minor damage to the ship’s 6th shield on the port side.  It then charged the Alaster  at an impressive combat speed of  impulse 6. Firing phasers, Chief Weapons Officer LCDR. John Gray was able to slow the creature at first to impulse 3 and then to impulse 1.  Finally slow enough, Capture Torpedoes were ordered launched. Both CT-1 and CT-2 Hit and projected their fields successfully. Thus the Enochian was captured and placed in stasis sleep. Communications then hailed the USS Graves who came and picked up the prisoner. Maximum damage was reported at  5%. Engineering should have them repaired by 3:00 today.  Two weapons members were reported injured and have been sent to the Medical Bay.  Overall the mission was a success.

Chief Weapons Log: Upon entry into the system the target was located approximately twenty units from the bow. Following communications and the raising of shields a shuttle was sent out to carry out the mission as decoy. Upon arriving at the target the Enochian destroyed the shuttle with a large gamma ray. The target proceeded to charge the ship. Phasers along the port side were fired to intercept the target and brought the target down to impulse three from its original impulse six. After engaging in a three minute phaser duel the target was slowed to impulse one with a loss of port side shielding and damage received to Phaser Bank One. Power from starboard shields was rerouted to Port shields immediately bringing shields back online. The speciality torpedoes were fired from all tubes. Torpedoes one and two both impacted and trapped the target in a stasis field. The use of the phaser banks that couldn’t draw line of sight to the target were used to suppress the space in their sectors of fire. The target was thus unable to flee from the port side cone of fire. Upon review of the engagement  damage could have been avoided had starboard shields been rerouted to port side only once the target had been reduced to impulse three.

Chief Helms log: After leaving the Lunar Base, we headed Jupiter to investigate the Enochian. After raising communications with the creature and sending out a false shuttle as a decoy the Enochian began open firing upon our position. As the pilot of the ship the captain gave the order to take evasive actions. The first wave of Enochian “phaser” fire was dodged but the second shot hit the port side dealing damage to the shields. We then flew the ship closer to be in phaser range and began our retaliation on the Enochian.  We eventually captured the creature and handed it off to the USS Graves. After the USS Graves arrived and picked up the Enochian, we began to plot a course to the Carara system.

Subject: Innon
Location: USS Graves

Chief Communications Log: When the creature was captured, I was presented with a strange symbol found upon its person.

The language and text used appears to be of the Enochian form of Old English. It could not be translated with our current system. Faced with no other option, I boarded the shuttle Delphi, along with CPO Jungling, and headed to visit our friend aboard the USS Graves.
Innon, as the creature calls itself, emits too much radiation for anyone to be near him without a containment field. All conversation happened over a speaker - which I was assured sufficed because he could see the heat that my body gave off.
I was recognized immediately as the one who first received his message. Earlier, it had been decided not to give the creature our entire names. Call us superstitious, but we have spent too much time reading Dee and Kelley’s journals not to take some sort of precaution. As such, I introduced myself by a nickname, ‘Kels.’ It turns out that I needn’t have introduced myself at all. Innon not only knew my entire name and rank, but that of everyone aboard the Alaster.
He further went on to assure me that he himself was well over 2,000 years old and had visited Earth many times. He was taken with our people and had taught man of the Angels, the only other creature in the universe older than his kind. It was also explained that “during the time of the ancestors” his home system was destroyed by a solar storm. To this day he and his kin take shelter on planets like Earth during Solar Storms and interact with the natives there. This was confirmed by an earlier search my crew did. See Log Entry “Angels of Death” for more detail.
We spoke of several other subjects from which I learned the following.
  • They can communicate telepathically
  • They naturally generate Gamma radiation as humans naturally generate heat
  • They do not see nor hear as we do
  • They think themselves the defenders of the universe and that Danny Boy’s research will change its fate and open doors for more hostile peoples to gain power. Hence their initial attack.
Innon was amicable until I brought up the symbol. It was then that he bid farewell and blasted out of the back of the hull.
I believe that he not only knew how to escape the entire time, but he allowed himself to be captured so that he might speak with one of us. He left me with these parting words:  "I needed to know your conviction. The boy shall live. Be thankful for that. I will be in touch."
After the encounter, CMDR Carlson was kind enough to fetch a piece of debris for me, that came from where I had been standing during our conversation. There is one single difference between this piece and the piece found upon his body. A small dot seems to have moved ever so slightly along a line of the outermost, south east point of the star.
Curently both CPO Jungling and I are in the medbay being checked over by the Chief Medical Officer. Then our real work shall begin.

Police Report from USS Graves:
“The explosion of the escape was equivalent to the explosive power of 2 tons of TNT.  Killing 15 in the initial blast and another 25 due to the bulkhead breech. Known survivors in immediate proximity: 3 of 28.

Reconstruction of the event indicates that the Enochian overpowered the outer containment field before the inner, thus making the blast more focused toward the outside than the in.

The Enochian is currently not on any scans of the Solar System and Earth's perimeter searches indicate no signs of the creature, but this could be due to the lack of appropriate detection systems. “
